I painted this after a visit to Pompeii in 2018. In only 6 hours this incredible city was covered by 25 meters of pyroclastic rock from the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. Pompeii continues to haunt me as I consider our own fragile environment and the fires that are ravaging our country.
